If your rearview mirror breaks, here's what to do:
1. Assess the Damage
Only the glass is broken? You can replace only the mirror without changing the entire support.
Damaged arm or cap? The entire mirror may need to be replaced.
Electronic functions compromised? If it has electric regulation or defrost, check the wiring.
2. Temporary Repair
If you need to drive before replacing it:
Strong adhesive tape to secure any unstable pieces.
Emergency adhesive mirror (available at auto parts stores).
Reflective film to improve temporary visibility.
3. Replacement or Repair
Do it yourself (if it's just glass): Buy a compatible mirror and glue it with specific double-sided tape.
Body Shop or Auto Parts: If the entire assembly is broken, you may need to buy a new or used one.
Electronic? If it has LED indicators, defrost or electric regulation, check the correct connection after replacement.
4. Legal Aspects
Driving without a mirror can be dangerous and punishable! In Italy it is mandatory to have at least:
The left rearview mirror (driver's side).
The interior rearview mirror, if rear visibility is unobstructed.
The right rearview mirror, if the left one is missing or the internal view is blocked.
Better to fix it as soon as possible to avoid fines and for safety!
